Hill 314 is the highest point located in the French village of Mortain, making it the perfect observation post from which a forward observer could call in artillery attacks on an enemy armored division. The American soldiers in Mortain are comprised of a National Guard Unit of men who were called to duty from the rural farms of Kentucky and Tennessee, earning them the moniker
"Old Hickory"
. Ironically, the unit has been used primarily as a
training
unit, not a
fighting
unit. The men of
Old Hickory
are surrounded by Hitler's elite SS Panzer divisions and a total force of some 12,000 Nazi soldiers! Both sides know whomever controls Hill 314 will be the victor of the war.
Few people could have ever imagined the destiny of these men would lie in a fight that would prove to be one of the most pivotal battles of WWII.
The entire war has now come down to this one critical point in time in this critical battle. This is the story of a truly epic race between two great armies to defeat their enemy in a pivotal battle that will literally determine the fate of the war in Europe. This is their story... (Approx. 45min.)

On March 17, 2020, President Donald J. Trump announced that the U.S. Army will be awarding the Presidential Unit Citation to the 30th Infantry Division in recognition of their heroic stand at the Battle of Mortain, France, August 7-12, 1944. According to the announcement, “This action rightfully recognizes our veterans who triumphed against incredible odds, as well as those who died during a critical battle that helped ensure the Allied victory in Europe.”
